Labour Day a day for reflection and action
August 30, 2018
For many across our country, Labour Day represents a symbolic end to summer. One last chance to go camping or on a road trip with the kids before they go back to school. This year we are inviting you to join one of the many labour day events across B.C. and also sign the petition to bring Pharmacare to all Canadians.
Labour Day is a day for us to reflect on, honour and celebrate the work that labour and union activists that came before us did. They fought for rights we often take for granted today like reducing the 16-hour workday to an eight-hour workday, overtime pay, sick leave and parental leave, and the list goes on.
So this Labour Day we encourage you to attend one of the public Labour Day events. Even if you aren’t able to attend an event, another way you can make an impact this Labour Day is to support the Canadian Labour Congress’ campaign to bring Pharmacare to all Canadians by signing the petition.
Sadly, millions of Canadians can’t afford to fill their prescriptions. Many are splitting their pills or skipping days to stretch their medications. Nobody should be forced to choose between paying for groceries and paying for the medication they need.
Show your support this Labour Day by using the hashtag #Pharmacare on social media and by signing the petition at www.aplanforeveryone.ca.
Have a happy and safe Labour Day.
In solidarity,
David Black, President
Lori Mayhew, Secretary-Treasurer
Gwenne Farrell, Vice-President
Christy Slusarenko, Vice-President
