Brian Martens appointed interim MoveUP VP responsible for ICBC

MoveUP’s executive board has elected Brian Martens as the interim vice-president responsible for the ICBC bargaining unit.

At the executive board meeting on June 25, 2026, and in accordance with Article 5.3(j) of MoveUP’s Constitution, the executive board determined the process for filling this unexpected absence. As a result, Brian Martens was elected to act on the vice-president’s behalf for any absence expected to be greater than 30 days but less than 90 days.

Brian brings a wealth of experience to the position. He has served on MoveUP’s executive board for multiple terms and has been part of MoveUP’s bargaining committee in multiple rounds of public sector bargaining with ICBC.

In addition to supporting MoveUP members at his workplace and across ICBC, Brian also gives back to his union and the labour movement in many capacities. He is a leader in promoting occupational health and safety, serves as a volunteer chair/co-chair on multiple committees at MoveUP, and is a frequent facilitator for MoveUP education workshops and seminars as well as for the BC Federation of Labour Health & Safety Centre.

Brian was the recipient of MoveUP’s Ardell Brophy Award in 2019.
