National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in Canada
MoveUP’s Women’s Rights Committee acknowledges December 6 as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in Canada.
On December 6, 1989, 14 female students at l’École Polyechnique at the Université de Montreal, many of them in the school’s engineering program, were murdered because they were women.

This day is not only a day for us to remember those victims, but an opportunity for us to take action as we strive to eliminate all forms of violence against women.
The Montreal Massacre must not be in vain. Violence against women continues to be present today in many forms and we must all work together in solidarity to recognize, address, and extinguish it.
