MoveUP statement

MoveUP members call for ceasefire in Israel-Palestine conflict

In November 2023, MoveUP’s national union, COPE SEPB, in conjunction with the Canadian Labour Congress, adopted the ITUC’s statement on the war in Israel and Palestine calling for an end to violence and for a peaceful solution to bring about a two-state solution.

Sadly, in the months that have followed, we have not seen a de-escalation of the situation. Instead, we have seen a continued increase in violence and the death toll in Gaza and the West Bank.

The devastation and deaths are affecting people across the world, including here in Canada. Protesters in support of Palestinian freedom have been met with violence, while reports of antisemitism have also increased.

Our union’s members have asked us to use our collective voice to call for a ceasefire and an end to the violence and senseless killing. We call for dialogue and peace.

We continue to offer support to our members who have been directly or indirectly affected by this ongoing war and have reached out to us and we will continue to connect to those members with appropriate resources as needed.
