MoveUP Convention 2018 – Day 1

The opening day of the 2018 MoveUP Convention was both fun and functional, highlighted by a number of featured speakers including President David Black giving his opening address, ICBC Chair and former BC NDP leader Joy MacPhail delivering a stirring speech, as well as greetings from Vancouver mayor-elect Kennedy Stewart and COPE-SEPB secretary-treasurer Kateri Lefebvre.

At the Convention, long-time MoveUP member turned executive turned staff member Karen Rockwell was named an honourary lifetime member.

MoveUP’s Human Rights & Multicultural Committee also posthumously awarded the 1st annual Peter Corren Award to Gurpreet Sran, a leader in her community who showed compassion and determination to end violence against women.

Before her passing, Gurpreet worked tireless to end violence against women in the Southeast Asian community. Her grassroots work to help those in need made a significant impact on those around her.
