Environment Committee: 2025 Earth Hour Challenge

The MoveUP Environment Committee is challenging MoveUP members members this Earth Hour!

Earth Hour takes place on Saturday, March 22 from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Pacific Time.

Since 2007, Earth Hour has been known for the “lights off” moment, with people around the world switching off their lights as a symbol of support for the planet and to raise awareness of the environmental issues affecting it. This year, Earth Hour is challenging you to spend 60 minutes of your time doing something good for the planet, and so is your Environment Committee!

The Challenge

Snap a time-stamped photo of yourself during Earth Hour giving your time back to the planet and share it with us and you could win a $100 gift card for a sustainable business of your choosing. This can be for a local nursery or garden shop or a local ethical business.

This photo could show you learning about an environmental cause, spending time in nature, or cooking a zero-waste dish (see Earth Hour recommendations here). Earth Hour is accessible to everyone, and they provide virtual, free, accessible ways to contribute to the Earth Hour challenge on Saturday, March 22.

Additional entry method: Submit a screen shot of your BC Hydro or FortisBC usage grid during Earth Hour to show reduced energy use. Please do not include any personally identifiable information on your screenshot. You can typically find your usage information by logging in to your online account.

Bonus challenge: World Water Day is also Saturday, March 22. If you incorporate a water theme into your submission (either with a reusable water bottle, rainwater collection, freshwater restoration, etc.) you will receive a bonus entry into our prize draw!
