MoveUP wins certification to represent surveillance workers at Cascades Casino in Langley

Casino surveillance workers at Cascades Casino in Langley can look forward to having an organization that will help them secure their right to fair wages, respect in the workplace and strong benefits after voting overwhelmingly to join the union, MoveUP.

“We are very happy to welcome these workers to our MoveUP family,” said MoveUP President David Black. “Unions exist to give strength to workers, to ensure workers are fairly treated, and to ensure healthy working conditions to that workers can better serve the public and truly enjoy going to work each and every single day.”

MoveUP represents over 12,000 at public and private sector companies in British Columbia, including casino surveillance workers at Cascades Casino in Penticton.

“My co-workers and I have seen firsthand of the benefits and protections that come along with being a part of the union and, in particular, the efforts that MoveUP has made to ensure we get fair representation and that our concerns and desires are addressed both during negotiations but also in times of labour peace,” said Troy Thicke, a surveillance worker at the Cascades Casino in Penticton, who also volunteers as a job steward for the union to serve his fellow co-workers. “On behalf of the surveillance workers at Cascades Casino in Penticton, I want to welcome the surveillance workers in Langley to our union.”

Bargaining for the first collective agreement for the casino surveillance workers in Langley will commence shortly.
