MoveUP supports government decision to halt independent power project agreements

MoveUP, the union representing employees at BC Hydro, supports the B.C. government’s decision to halt independent power project agreements until the results of a review into BC Hydro’s operations are available.

“Financially and functionally, it makes complete sense that before any major agreements are signed that the B.C. government has complete picture of BC Hydro’s operations,” said MoveUP President David Black. “These agreements will impact the direct cost to British Columbians in the long run so it is vitally important that proper due diligence is undertaken, something that we have not seen in the past.

“We recognize the need for clean sources of energy but we also cannot be put in a position where we are paying for power we don’t need. Power is a necessity and we support the government’s moves towards making it affordable for all British Columbians.”

MoveUP urges BC Hydro and the B.C. government to look for opportunities to partner with First Nations around B.C. to provide sources of clean, cheap and reliable power to B.C., and First Nations in particular.
