Statement of President David Black on Vancouver School Board firings

“I’m shocked and appalled to learn Education Minister Mike Bernier has undermined the voters of Vancouver by firing the democratically elected school board,” said MoveUP President David Black. “The Vancouver School Board has done a great job of standing up for students and parents. They’ve rallied against chronic underfunding, school closures and ageing, unsafe buildings. As a parent I know it often feels like our locally elected representatives are the only ones on our side.”

“Premier Christy Clark keeps telling British Columbians our economy is doing well, but she and her Minister can’t find the money in the $1.9 billion surplus to fund public education,” continued Black. “It’s not good enough. Many of MoveUP’s members are parents with kids in our public school system. They, and all B.C. familes, deserve better.”
