MoveUP statement on public transit incident

Our union and our members, in particular those who work in public transit, were deeply disturbed and hurt to learn about the verbal threat directed towards a Coast Mountain Bus Driver last week.

Although bus drivers belong to a different union than ours, they work closely with our members to provide an essential service to the public. These workers deserve our respect and appreciation.

Whether this incident was racially motivated or not, there is never any place for this type of behaviour. No one should ever be threatened in this manner whether it is at home, at work, or anywhere else.

Nobody should feel unsafe when they attend work. If our members experience or witness this type of atrocious behaviour, they should report it immediately to a supervisor and to their job steward.
