Wrong Way Bonny's Taxi

MoveUP calls on Bonny’s Taxi to reverse layoff notices, stand up for Canadian jobs

MoveUP, the union that represents taxi dispatchers working at Bonny’s Taxi along with several other taxi companies operating in British Columbia, is demanding that Bonny’s Taxi reverse their decision to lay off workers in their Burnaby-based headquarters to preserve local jobs in the community and stand up for Canadian workers.

“We are living in a time when we need to be standing up for Canadian jobs, not selling them out to save a few bucks,” said Annette Toth, President of MoveUP. “By laying off local workers and outsourcing their jobs overseas, Bonny’s Taxi is being as anti-Canadian as it gets.

“Job losses aren’t the only issue if Bonny’s Taxi follows through with their plan to outsource work. It also means rider information is going to leave the country which creates a lot of privacy concerns, especially for those who are using Bonny’s Taxi to take trips of a medical nature, such as for clients of ICBC or WorkSafeBC, or for other confidential appointments.”

MoveUP is asking for the public’s support to call on the management of Bonny’s Taxi to reverse their decision to lay off workers and, instead, return to the bargaining table in good faith to reach an agreement on a contract that pays workers fairly and preserves local jobs.

Members of the public can sign the petition at moveuptogether.ca/bonnys-petition or contact Bonny’s Taxi General Manager Emon Barie directly to voice their displeasure by calling (604) 412-0281 or emailing emon@bonnystaxi.com.

“As the union representing workers at Bonny’s Taxi, we want to see their company be successful as well. The only way forward is to do so with local workers who understand how to serve people in the community. But if Bonny’s Taxi wants to take an anti-Canadian stance by outsourcing their work, then people will have a choice to make if they want to continue supporting a company that doesn’t support their community or their values.”
