Job stewards from MoveUP workplaces gathered for the annual seminar to take part in a variety of course to enhance their education. This year’s course offerings included Job Steward – Level 1, Job Steward – Level 2, Job Steward – Level 3, Collective Bargaining – Level 1, Conflict Resolution, Labour Community Advocate, Facing Management, and Seasoned Leaders: Mentoring New Job Stewards.

This year’s event featured special guest speaker Diego Cardona. Diego is a political organizer and national recognized advocate in the fields of racial and migrant justice. He came to Canada as a refugee from Columbia in 2005 and has since made Vancouver, unceded Coast Salish territory, his permanent home. Diego is a key member of the Fresh Voices of BC, an initiative of immigrant and refugee youth seeking to include the voices of newcomer youth in policy development and decision making.

Also announced at this year’s event was the impending retirement of MoveUP Vice-President Gwenne Farrell. This year marks the 13th Job Steward Seminar that Gwenne has organized and her final one prior to her retirement.

Thank you Gwenne for all you have done as Chair of the Education Committee and for our union as a whole.

Thanks to the generosity of job stewards, $1310 was also raised during the weekend in support of Tampon Tuesday.
