MoveUP is pleased to announce that members of our union who work at the BCIT Student Association (BCITSA) have ratified the tentative agreement on a new collective agreement.
This marks the first collective agreement for these workers since they joined MoveUP in December 2024. MoveUP proudly represents nearly 90 workers at the BCITSA.
“Getting a first collective agreement is a milestone moment for newly unionized workers,” said Annette Toth, President of MoveUP. “The journey to getting a first collective agreement is a strenuous one, but we were successful thanks to the solidarity demonstrated by our members at BCITSA and the diligent work of our bargaining committee.
“With this first collective agreement in place, we have established a new standard with stronger wages, benefits, and time off provisions. These workers will enjoy a better standard of living and a better work environment where their work is respected, and their quality of life will be greatly improved.”
The collective agreement runs through to May 31, 2028 and features increases to wages, vacation and personal time off, and benefit premiums for MoveUP members. It also establishes robust job security protections such as a grievance procedure, representational rights, progressive discipline provisions, accommodation provisions, seasonal layoff provisions, recall rights, and more.
Additionally, the collective agreement calls for increased commitment from the employer on communication and consultation with staff.
