Statement from President Toth on attack against striking workers at Royal BC Museum

Statement from MoveUP President Annette Toth on the attack on striking workers at Royal BC Museum:

Our union is extremely troubled by the reported attack on the BCGEU members who were peacefully exercising their workers’ right to strike at the Royal BC Museum on Tuesday evening.

It is even more disturbing to hear that during this attack there were racial and homophobic slurs being used.

Workers deserve to be treated with respect and dignity, whether they’re on the job, out in the community, or on a picket line. This heinous assault is reprehensible and we hope the perpetrators will be found and made to answer for their actions.

Our 14,000 members stand unequivocally with the BCGEU members who are on the picket line at the Royal BC Museum, and with all the BCGEU and PEA members across the province who are on picket lines fighting for better working conditions for public sector workers.
