BC NDP – Incident at MLA Bowinn Ma’s Constituency Office

June 27, 2025

To: All Members at BC NDP

To our members working at the BC NDP,

Today, our union was shocked to hear about the incident that took place at MLA Bowinn Ma’s constituency office involving an explosive device that was left at the door.

We are very thankful that nobody from their office, or any bystander, was hurt in the incident, but I wanted to reach out directly to our members who work at the provincial NDP office because I know this incident is deeply disturbing and frightening for all of us.

I know many of you have friends and colleagues who work at constituency offices across the province, and seeing our friends and colleagues being put in harm’s way is extremely terrifying.

These actions that endanger peoples’ lives and jeopardize the safety of our communities are unacceptable. Nobody should feel unsafe when they are at work or volunteering, or when they are using the services of their local MLA’s office, regardless of political stripe.

If you require any support during this time, please reach out to your job steward or to your union representatives, Kai Sharpe or Anny Chen.

In solidarity,

Christy Sluarenko
Vice-President, Combined Units
