Gateway Casino Re-opening July 1, 2021

To: MoveUP Members at Gateway Casinos
We are pleased with the government announcement this past Tuesday, May 24, 2021, that casinos will be able to reopen as of July 1, 2021. This is exciting news however, this reopening will be contingent on what our provinces case counts, hospitalizations, and vaccination rates are at the time. We are hopeful that British Columbia continues this downward trend in the right direction and that this reopening occurs as planned.
MoveUP has also been advised from Gateway that your benefits have been extended to the July 31, 2021.
Your union has reached out to your employer and will be scheduling ongoing discussions regarding the steps that will be taken to reopen. We are not certain of the capacity or numbers that will be allowed on reopening however, we know that all of you will return at some point as we move through the process. Therefore, it is important that all the members ensure that their contact information is up to date with your union and employer.
This has been a long and difficult time for all of you. Your union has worked hard to get the casinos to reopen, and we will continue to work with your employer to ensure the reopening goes smoothly. Please keep in touch with your union and update us on any issues you may have regarding this news.
As more and more of our population receive their vaccinations, it gets us closer to normalcy, and closer to returning to our jobs. In the meantime, stay safe and healthy.
