Statement on despicable gathering of white nationalists near Kamloops
September 28, 2026
To: MoveUP Members
On Sunday, we witnessed a despicable gathering of white nationalists on the land of the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc near Kamloops.
Their intent was to intimidate, spread hate and fear, and terrorize. They are domestic terrorists by every definition of the phrase.
We are going to call it as it: These pathetic people represent no one other than their own cowardly, racist interests.
And this is step one in their plan to spread lies and hate: Spread fear and hate through intimidation; then wait to see who joins them, who shares their opinions or worse yet, to see how many people just ignore it and do nothing to oppose them.
At MoveUP, we will not stand idly by. We WILL stand up to them – and we won’t do it hiding our faces like cowards. We will show up and let everyone know who we are and what we stand for.
If you know someone who participated in the act of terrorism we saw on Sunday, you have a moral obligation to report it to your local authorities. Here is the anonymous contact to Crime Stoppers.
While we appreciate seeing most (but not all) BC provincial political parties denounce this despicable attempt to terrorize, let’s not lose sight of the fact that it is the deliberate coddling of the extreme far-right that has allowed thugs like these from Sunday to feel they have a free space to spread their messages of hate and fear.
This Wednesday, September 30, we will observe National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. Our union, our communities, and Canadians everywhere will continue to progress and commit to learning about the histories of Indigenous people, understanding the atrocities committed by governments, religious orders, and citizens towards Indigenous people, and finding ways we can advance reconciliation with Indigenous people and to end the continued racism Indigenous people face today.
To the members of our union who identify as Indigenous, to the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc, and to Indigenous communities everywhere: We stand with you. We’re sorry you continue to have to put up with these abhorrent acts of terrorism. We are committed to continue learning on the ways we can support truth and reconciliation as a union and as individuals.
