Hertz Bankruptcy Announcement

To: All MoveUP members at Hertz
We hope you are all doing as well as possible in these difficult times.
Hertz’ announcement on Friday that they have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the United States has added another difficult chapter to the story of what has been happening in the world over the last four months.
Your union is aware that Hertz has provided a FAQ document to all members. The document provides a very basic analysis of the situation including background leading to the current situation and how things may possibly evolve.
British Columbia has done an excellent job of flattening the curve and I am sure we are all hoping this will continue. Unfortunately, other parts of the world have not done the same and the car rental business is of course highly dependent on travel. This will mean that it will take longer for the industry to recover in general as borders will remain closed and consumer and business confidence will have a negative effect on travel.
During these difficult times your union has worked hard to ensure both your collective bargaining rights and safety have been protected. We will continue to update this page as new information becomes available.
Union membership always pays off in terms of better wages and benefits. It also pays off during times of employer turmoil. A collective bargaining agreement is designed to offer protection during good and bad times. The current state that Hertz finds itself in is not a reflection of the work done by our members. Your union will be working to ensure that our members are not being punished for things that are beyond our control. We will work to provide our members with the rights that have been earned through successive rounds of collective bargaining.
Much like COVID-19, the current financial state of Hertz is just another challenge that we will all need to work through.
Please be assured that the application for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection by the corporate arm of Hertz in the United States in no way diminishes our collective bargaining agreement rights and we will work to ensure that this is the case.
