Bulletin
Emergency Child Care for Children up to Five Years of Age
April 14, 2020
To: MoveUP Members
On behalf of all of us at MoveUP, we hope you and your family had a safe and enjoyable Easter long weekend.
For those of us who are accustomed to traditionally spending the long weekend with friends and family or taking trips out of town, it was an adjustment for sure. We are glad to see many people managed to connect with loved ones through phone calls or video chats while still following the directives from our provincial health officials to stay home and maintain physical distance. By working together, we will be able to emerge from this crisis sooner and stronger.
As we resume our work coming out of the long weekend, our focus continues to be on supporting our members who have been recently laid off and those who are, or have been, transitioning to work-from-home environments, as well as addressing the health and safety concerns of members who continue to be at their regular workplaces.
For our members who have been laid off, we are pleased to inform you that our Executive Council voted last week to temporarily waive the minimum dues requirement to help all members remain in good standing during this challenging period.
For our members who continue to remain at their regular workplaces, we know that there is an added challenge for those who have young children in need of childcare services.
We want to make sure that those members, and anyone else who may need it, are aware of the Government of BC’s initiatives for temporary emergency childcare in their communities.
All parents are welcome to apply, but spaces will be prioritized first for healthcare workers, then by others in occupations listed in the Essential Services Workers list, and then finally by all others. Please note that the number of spaces available are limited by each operator’s availability, following licensing capacity and provincial health guidelines, and the matching process is only temporary.
To fill out a new “parent form” to identify your need for urgent child care, you can call 1-888-338-6622 and selection Option 4. You can also find more information and the online form at www.gov.bc.ca/essential-service-child-care.
