Typhoon Haiyan Devastates the Philippines – How You Can Help

Typhoon Haiyan, one of the largest and most powerful storms in recorded history, made landfall in the Philippines over the long weekend. Haiyan caused immense damage to cities, homes and lives. The widespread damage is especially bad on Samar Island and Leyte and the hardest hit city is Tacloban, where an estimated 10,000 people are dead. The UN estimates 11 million people have been affected.

This is nothing short of humanitarian crisis.

The Government of Canada announced it will match Canadians’ Haiyan relief donations to registered charities.

The MoveUP executive board has made an motion to donate to OXFAM Canada. I made my personal donation today to the Humanitarian Coalition, a joint fundraising body that includes CARE Canada, OXFAM Canada and Quebec, Plan Canada and Save the Children. Others have chosen to donate to the Red Cross. All are registered charities eligible to be matched by the Canadian government. Click here for a full list.

Please consider donating to the charity of your choice to help aid the massive humanitarian effort now underway in the Philippines. Any donation, no matter how small, can make a difference.

Sincerely,

David Black,
MoveUP President
