Members Show Their PRIDE

MoveUP members joined members of many other unions as part of the Multi-Union Pride entry in this past weekend’s Vancouver Pride Parade. Carrying our banner that reads “Pride and Solidarity”, COPE members marched in a group with representatives of the BC Federation of Labour, as well as BCGEU, CUPW and CAW members, blowing noisemakers and handing out little trinkets to people in the crowd. The Multi-Union float – a rainbow-bedecked RV – followed behind with another crowd of union members and banners.

An estimated 650,000 people crowded into Vancouver’s West End to watch this year’s parade, part of a tradition that started in 1969 in the wake of the Stonewall Riots in New York. It was a hot day but the crowds were really enthusiastic right until the end. For more pictures from the parade, hop over to the MoveUP Facebook page.
