MoveUP supports freedom of reproductive choice

Access to abortion is not only a women’s health issue.

Access to abortion is a safety issue. Access to abortion is a poverty issue. Access to abortion is a 2SLGBTQIA+ issue. Access to abortion is a racial issue.

The US Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, which provided secured constitutional protections for abortion in the US, is an attack on rights and on freedom of reproductive choice.

Sadly, here in Canada, we have seen well-funded anti-abortion, anti-choice groups who are trying to take away these hard-fought, essential rights as well. To this day, despite abortion being decriminalized in Canada, there remains no explicit law that guarantees reproductive rights in Canada which leaves us potentially vulnerable as well.

As a union, working with our national union COPE SEPB and our allies in the labour movement and those in equity-deserving groups, we will always stand in solidarity with those who are fighting to protect the freedom of reproductive choice.

If you, or someone you know, needs support, please contact the National Abortion Federation (NAF) Canada by visiting nafcanada.org or the Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada (ARCC) by visiting arcc-cdac.ca.

In solidarity,
