MoveUP statement on developing situation at Lapu Lapu Festival

*This statement references an emerging situation at the time of writing and may be triggering for readers*

Our union is shocked and saddened by the news of the serious incident that has reportedly occurred at the Lapu Lapu Day Festival in Vancouver.

As details of the incident are still emerging, we will refrain from mentioning any specific details. Our thoughts go out to those who have been affected by this serious incident and to the entire Filipino community.

MoveUP was proud to be a supporter of the Lapu Lapu Day Festival and were excited to be part of a festival that brought people together in fun way to enjoy Filipino culture. We are heartbroken to see a day of celebration turn tragic.

Our union is working to connect with members of our union who may have attended the Lapu Lapu Day Festival in Vancouver to ensure they are safe. We ask our members to contact their job steward or union representative if they need any support.

In solidarity,

Annette Toth
President
