International Trade Union Council Day of Action for Peace in Gaza

August 7, 2014

MoveUP is a member of IndustriALL Global Union, an international labour organization that works for better working conditions and trade union rights around the world. IndustriALL represents 50 million workers in 140 countries in the energy, mining and manufacturing sectors.

On Thursday, August 7, IndustriALL is asking its affiliates worldwide to join the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) Global Day of Action for Peace in Gaza.

ITUC General Secretary Sharan Burrow wrote in her call to action letter:

“Schools, hospitals and the only power station have been bombed, drawing heavy condemnation from the United Nations, several of whose personnel have also lost their lives. The targeting of civilians is against international law and the UN has called for accountability and justice.”

You can take part by sending a message on Twitter to the UN and the Canadian government like the below example:

“I support peace & democracy everywhere. @UN, @pmharper: Act now for #gaza.”

If you don’t use Twitter you can post a message on Facebook.

You can also join the ITUC’s online postcard campaign Peace Like Mine, which allows you to upload a photo of what peace looks like to you – it might be a photo of family or community or another aspect of everyday life – and a message to the UN.
