BCNU strike update: Picketing forces BCNU leadership to scramble

September 22, 2016

This morning, striking MoveUP members at the BCNU picketed a location where BCNU leaders and stewards were meeting and working. Members were successful in forcing the Employer to cancel the meeting at that location.

During this action, the Employer’s chief negotiator threatened Union members with termination of their employment if the picketing continued. The Union Representative advised the Employer of the inappropriateness of such threats. Members were reminded by MoveUP President, David Black, that the Union is committed to ensuring everyone who wants to return to work at the end of the strike is able to do so. No member who engages appropriately in Union activity will be left behind.

MoveUP remains committed to working to secure a fair and reasonable collective agreement with no concessions. We will continue to communicate with BCNU members throughout the province to pressure the leadership to ‘walk the talk’ of their supposed union values and return the bargaining table without concessionary demands.
