Westland Insurance Group – Bargaining Update #1

To: All MoveUP members at Westland Insurance Group - Mill Bay
Your union commenced bargaining with your employer on July 22, 2024. In the first meeting, the parties tabled various proposals which generated productive discussions on non-monetary items.
We continued our negotiations on July 23 and July 24 which resulted in significant progress by coming to agreement with most non-monetary items. Although there are minor areas of contention still outstanding between the parties, we were able to move forward to begin monetary discussions. Both parties tabled their monetary items.
On September 5, 2024, the parties met to discuss the monetary items. We rejected a majority of the employer’s monetary proposals as they were concessionary. Our message to the Employer was clear and concise: we will not agree to any concessions to your wages, benefits and leave entitlements. The employer was displeased with our response and did not meet with us the next day.
The Union is hopeful that the Employer now sees the value of your work for Westland and returns to the table expeditiously and in good faith to find mutually agreeable and beneficial solutions to their concerns, our concerns, and your contract without further escalation or external intervention.
We will keep you posted as updates become available and appreciate your ongoing support and patience while we negotiate the best possible deal for you.
