Victoria Shipyards – Retroactive Wage Increase, Ratification Payment, and Sick Days
May 9, 2022
To: MoveUP Members at Victoria Shipyards
First off, I want to thank you all again for your participation in the bargaining process and your overwhelming strike vote and ratification vote support.
We have just received confirmation from the employer that the negotiated retroactive wage increases for 2021 and 2022 will be paid out the week of May 16, 2022.
For clarity, your retroactive payment will be as follows:
- 2.5% increase for all hours worked from March 1, 2021 to February 28, 2022
- 3.0% increase for all hours worked from March 1, 2022 to current
Those wage increases compound so you will get the 2.5% calculated on your base wage first, and then the 3.0% increase will be on top of that. For example, if you are an Admin 1:
- February 28, 2021 wage rate: $26.15 (base salary)
- March 1, 2021 wage rate with 2.5% increase: $26.80 (increase of $.65 per hour)
- March 1, 2022 wage rate with 3.0% increase: $27.60 (increase of $.80 per hour)
In addition, you will also receive your ratification payment that week as well. Any MoveUP member that worked more than 1200 hours, or about 150 days, will receive the full amount of $750, less statutory deductions, including union dues. For members that worked less than the 1200 hours, you will receive $500, less statutory deductions, including union dues. If there were any employees that worked less than 160 hours, they will not receive a ratification payment.
If that’s not enough good news for a Monday, we also received information from the employer that they will now be following the legislated sick leave language at Victoria Shipyards. The details of that are yet to be worked out and it might take a few more weeks to iron out the kinks for them. I did ask how many MoveUP members were affected at Victoria Shipyards and I should get that information from the employer next week.
We will keep you updated on any new information that comes up surrounding the sick days.
In solidarity,
Yudon Garie
Union Representative
