VOCU Bargaining Update 10-VantageOne Credit Union Applies under Section 78 of the Labour Relations Code
November 19, 2020
To: All MoveUP members at VantageOne Credit Union
Late yesterday afternoon, your employer’s bargaining consultant submitted an application to the Labour Relations Board of BC (LRB), under Section 78 of the Code, to force a Last Offer vote.
What this means is that the employer will force you to vote on their last offer, which was presented to your bargaining committee during mediation on November 4, 2020.
From the responses we received during the membership meeting on November 3, we were given clear instruction from you that you were not interested in any offer which was less than what you deserved. When your employer presented their last offer on November 4, your bargaining committee strongly felt it did not meet the threshold needed make up for small increases achieved on your last agreement. It seems that the employer now thinks that having you see the offer, and forcing you to vote on it, will entice you to accept it.
You all strongly agreed that this last offer did not reflect the value of your work. Your bargaining committee has been transparent with the information of what the employer’s last offer entails and you responded with a resounding 100% in favour of strike to show your dissatisfaction.
The Last Offer vote will be conducted by the LRB and voting will be done electronically. As soon as LRB has made the arrangements we will provide you all details of that process.
Remember that you’re not only standing strong for now, but also for your future.
In solidarity,
Nadine Burton, Job Steward
