Message to Members at DLOs Regarding Recent Incidents
March 20, 2020
To: All MoveUP Members at ICBC Driver Licensing Offices and all ICBC Job Stewards
To MoveUP Members at Driver Licensing Offices
Hello everyone,
Earlier today, your union sent a news release to media outlets sharing your concerns with customers at Driver Licensing Offices. We are hearing that people who are displaying obvious signs of illness are entering the buildings and refusing to leave, as well as people who are being untruthful about their self-isolation requirement status in order to get past screeners.
You can read that media release here: https://moveuptogether.ca/the-latest/moveup-urges-public-to-remember-social-responsibility-and-distance/
I want you to know that we are taking these incident reports very seriously. We are getting multiple reports from many different offices, so I apologize if I am not able to respond back to each one of you individually right away.
Any issue that jeopardizes your safety and health, especially for those who are dealing with the public face to face, is a top of mind issue for us at MoveUP. ICBC has also indicated to us that this is an issue of critical importance, and we are working collaboratively for an appropriate response on how to handle these situations.
Once again, I want to thank everyone for your vigilance, but also your understanding and patience under these extremely difficult situations.
We wish we had the solutions to every problem at a moments notice, but the reality is we are dealing with some very unprecedented circumstances which seem to constantly be evolving.
My sincere gratitude to all of our job stewards and our staff at MoveUP for doing their best to keep all our members updated and responding to everyone’s concerns. It has not gone unnoticed. I hope everyone at your office recognizes that as well and will offer up their thanks to a job steward, to a MoveUP staff member, and to your managers as well as they try to navigate all these situations.
We are all in this together. If you are looking for resources, we have a continually updated page set up on our website at MoveUPTogether.ca/flattenthecurve.
In solidarity,
Annette Toth
Vice-President, ICBC Unit
