International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers
December 17, 2024
To: All Members
On December 17th, we observe the International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers, a day dedicated to raising awareness and standing in solidarity with sex workers worldwide who face violence, discrimination, and marginalization.
This day is a call to action for all of us to stand up against the systemic violence and human rights violations that affect sex workers. We recognize their dignity, safety, and rights, and commit to fighting for an inclusive, just society where all workers are treated with respect, fairness, and equality.
Why This Day Matters:
Sex workers, regardless of their profession, are entitled to the same rights and protections as all workers. Yet, they often face:
- Physical and emotional violence: Assault, harassment, and abuse from clients, law enforcement, and even society.
- Criminalization: Laws that make their work illegal, leaving them vulnerable to exploitation and violence.
- Stigmatization: Being marginalized and treated as less than others, often with little support or protection.
- Lack of support systems: Limited access to healthcare, legal aid, and safety measures.
What We Can Do:
- Raise awareness: Share information and stories that highlight the need for protection and justice for sex workers.
- Support policies: Advocate for decriminalization and the protection of sex workers’ rights.
- Foster solidarity: Stand together with all marginalized groups, including sex workers, in the fight for equality.
- Ensure workplace safety: Uphold the rights and dignity of all workers, including those in vulnerable positions.
A Call to Action:
We encourage all members to use this day to:
- Educate yourself and others about the challenges faced by sex workers.
- Support organizations and initiatives that advocate for the rights and safety of sex workers.
Let us stand together, united in our commitment to ending violence and promoting justice for all workers, regardless of their occupation. By standing in solidarity, we can create a safer, more equitable world for everyone.
In solidarity,
Rysa Kronebusch
