FortisBC Customer Service Centre(s) – COVID-19 Mitigation Discussions – Update #1

March 20, 2020

To: All MoveUP Members at Fortis CSC

The Parties conducted a teleconference call today at 9:00 am, where the Company identified that they will be implementing their Customer Service Continuity Plan.

You will be receiving a communication from the Company during the course of the day that will outline their plans.  What we can tell you based on our teleconference call is that the Company will be reducing staffing levels to assist in the risk of exposure during the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is the Company’s goal is to keep people working, keep them safe and keep them paid.

The Continuity plan is geared for the next two (2) weeks and is being implemented to provide time to establish a more fulsome plan as things progress and directives and mandates are released from our Provincial and Federal Governments.

The Company has established a priority list that they have implemented to assess the priority of the work and what staffing levels are needed.  And, so the Company will be reducing the staffing levels at the Contact Centre(s) by thirty-five (35) people per day.  For the Billing/Service and collections, a 50% reduction for onsite staff.  It is the Company’s intent to break the employees into two (2) groups and have one (1) group work from home one week and the other stay at home, with pay.  Then the next week, the groups will switch.  However, employees will have to be prepared to return to work if they are at home with eight (8) hours of notice.

As you can appreciate, this is a difficult time, and we are all doing the best that we can and it is very likely that plans and directives could or will change on daily basis as we all attempt to deal with the effects of COVID-19.

For information regarding COVID-19, please see our resource page regarding “Flatten The Curve COVID-19” at https://moveuptogether.ca/resources/flattenthecurve/.

We will keep you updated as we become apprised.

In Solidarity,

Cindy A. Lee
Union Representative
