FortisBC-CSC – Overtime Meal Expenses

December 9, 2022

To: All MoveUP members at FBC-CSC

It has come to your union’s attention that the company may not be consistently applying the overtime meal allowances as detailed in Article 16.07 of your collective agreement. (FBC-CSC Collective Agreement)

Meal Provisions

  • Where an employee is required to work less than two hours beyond their regular shift, a ½ hour unpaid meal period will be allowed.
  • Where an employee is required to work three hours or more, the Company will provide a meal or reimburse the employee for reasonable meal expenses incurred.

When accepting overtime beyond three hours, you may want to request clarification from the company if they plan on providing a meal or if you will be responsible for  your overtime meal as set out in Article 16.07.

As your collective agreement does not provide for any mandatory overtime, it would suggest that all overtime is voluntary, and the plain reading of the language is that all employees working three hours or more are entitled to this meal provision.

If you have any questions or concerns around this, please reach out to a job steward.  (Job Steward List)
