Bulletin
Depot Annual Vacation Grievance – Coast Mountain Bus
October 6, 2017
TO: All Depot Workleaders and Depot Coordinators at CMBC
As you are likely aware, your union has been pursuing a grievance with regards to the employer decision to block-out Depot Coordinator vacation periods in order to cover for Depot Workleader vacations. Earlier this year, we issued a bulletin advising that we had advanced the grievance to arbitration and had scheduled hearing dates in the summer. Unfortunately, those dates had to be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. However, we continued to pursue the matter with the employer.
We are now able to advise that we have been able to come to a resolve with the employer regarding this case. The employer will not be blocking out vacation for this purpose in 2018. They will block-out vacation periods in accordance with past practice, for sign-ups and sign-up preparation. If there are any other proposed block-outs in 2018 then we will discuss those with the employer and they would need to be based on legitimate operational requirements.
We know that these block-outs were just one of many frustrations that you are experiencing and that you have expressed to us. As you know, there is presently a review taking place in the depots. As noted in our previous bulletin on that subject, we encourage your participation in this review. It is critical that we all make our voices heard in this process. Of course there is no guarantee what the outcome of this review may be, but we are hopeful that it may lead to further positive change.
Thank you for your patience and support as we pursued this grievance. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.
In solidarity,
Stephen Von Sychowski, Union Representative
