CMBC Multiple Cases of COVID-19 at Surrey Transit Centre

February 3, 2021

To: All MoveUP members at Coast Mountain Bus

MoveUP learned late Tuesday afternoon February 2, 2021, from the employer that there have been multiple cases of  COVID-19 cases at the Surrey Transit Centre. The Fraser Health Authority has sent the attached letter to the employer. At this juncture Fraser Health has not declared an outbreak at the Surrey Transit Centre, however, they are closely monitoring the situation. Due to confidentiality reasons, neither the union nor the employer know the number of confirmed cases at the Surrey Transit Centre.

This exposure does not mean you are infected with COVID-19. The Fraser Health Authority is actively contract tracing individuals. If you do not have symptoms and have not been contacted by Fraser Health Authority please self-monitor yourself for symptoms.

The employer has advised your union that any relevant workplaces have been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. Your union will push the employer to take every step available to ensure the safety of our members given this development. All members at the Surrey Transit Centre are reminded to:

Continuously and diligently monitor your health for fever, cough, sneezing, sore throat or difficulty breathing;
Do not come to work if you are sick;
Contact your doctor or BC HealthLink at 8-1-1 immediately if you become sick or experience any of the above symptoms;
Ensure you follow all safety directives from CMBC with respect to mandatory masking and social distancing. If you observe anyone contravening this policy please report it to your supervisor.

Further information about COVID-19 is available on the BC Centre for Disease Control website.

Your union is in daily conversations with CMBC about the COVID-19 pandemic. Our utmost priority is to ensure our members are safe in the workplace.

MoveUP members can take steps to protect one another. Please remain vigilant. Everyone MUST wash their hands and use sanitizing wipes on any objects, surfaces, etc., that are touched by co-workers in between cleaning schedules. All members can ensure that social distancing protocols are followed at work.  If you aren’t able to practice social distancing, please report to your manager and your local OH&S representative.

MoveUP is working hard to ensure that our OH&S Committees are activated and well informed about COVID-19 and that all employers meet their responsibility to provide a healthy and safe workplace during the pandemic. If you are an OH&S Committee member at this location, you should be reviewing your workplace COVID-19 Safety Plan in light of these events to ensure effective social distancing, disinfecting, occupancy limits, etc are in place.

MoveUP will keep members advised as we learn more about this situation. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to your Union Representative Parm Sandhar or our WCB and OH&S Specialist Niki Schnurr.
