CCCU Bargaining Committee Election
February 9, 2023
To: MoveUP Members at Coastal Community Credit Union
The MoveUP and Coastal Community Credit Union collective agreement will expire on June 30, 2023. Please be aware the agreement will continue in full force until a new agreement is negotiated and ratified. Before this can happen, you must select your bargaining committee.
The bargaining committee will consist of four members who are executive councillors or job stewards. Your union representative will also sit on the committee to lead negotiations. Historically, the three executive councillors serve on the bargaining committee along with one job steward elected by the membership. This term, Executive Councillor Marah Carnes is available to serve and the membership will be electing three job stewards.
The key characteristics of an effective bargaining committee:
- Procedurally, members of the executive council serve on their unit’s bargaining committee as most councillors have participated in past negotiations and are familiar with the bargaining history.
- Bargaining committee members should have in-depth knowledge of work processes at their location/department.
- Bargaining committee members should have the ability to work cooperatively with other job stewards at other locations. During negotiations, we may reach out to a job steward(s) for support or clarification on bargaining items.
In an effort to represent all members, locations and departments, the bargaining committee should comprise of a member from:
- the retail group (full time or part time),
- the relationship centre group, the regional employee group,
- the back-office group or
- a member which has held a combination of bargaining unit positions in the past twenty-four months
If you are a job steward interested in participating as a bargaining committee member or a member who would like to nominate a job steward for the bargaining committee, please email Union Representative Anny Chen at achen@moveuptogether.ca by Friday, February 17, 2023. In the event that there are more nominations than the three positions available, an election will be held.
In solidarity,
Anny Chen, Union Representative
