Bargaining
Alma Mater Society – Bargaining Update #5
August 21, 2017
To: All MoveUP members at Alma Mater Society
As you are aware, your employer at AMS has repeatedly ignored our request to return to the bargaining table and negotiate a fair collective agreement. Your Bargaining Committee met on August 17th to strategize our position and we will have a membership meeting in the near future to share that information.
Together, we have strength in numbers and it is important that we remain focused under these difficult circumstances.
MoveUP’s position:
- This is about fighting a roll back of our agreement and equal treatment for AMS members. MoveUP members compromised (their) wages in the last collective agreement and now despite positive growth and a stable economy, your employer wants you to accept an agreement that falls short of inflation AND take concessions.
- In February, the AMS Council was told it will have a budget surplus of $561,000:VP Finance Louis Retief reported that business revenues are up and expenditures are down.
- We have repeatedly advised the AMS Management that we are ready and willing to return to the bargaining table, anywhere, any time.
- This refusal to bargain a fair collective agreement has left us with no option but to serve 72 hour strike notice and possibly take job action.
Please stay tuned for further bulletins and updates.
In Solidarity,
Your Bargaining Committee
