Capilano University – Enhanced Voluntary Severance Agreement Signed
October 16, 2026
To: All MoveUP Members at Capilano University
We are pleased to let you know we have successfully negotiated and signed an agreement with your employer that will provided enhanced payments for those who may be seeking voluntary severance.
This comes on the heels of your the Section 54 notice sent by your employer on October 7.
The payments we have negotiated are significantly higher than the permanent layoff severance available under Article 12.09 of your collective agreement. The payout option is as follows:
| Length of Service | Payout available | Difference compared to Article 12.09 |
| 1 to 2 years of service* | 30% of your annual salary | ~10-11 weeks extra compared to collective agreement severance |
| 3 to 4 years of service | 40% of your annual salary | ~13 weeks extra compared to collective agreement severance |
| 5 to 9 years of service | 50% of your annual salary | ~8-16 weeks extra compared to collective agreement severance |
| 10 to 15 years of service | 65% of your annual salary | ~10-14 weeks extra compared to collective agreement severance |
Participation is strictly voluntary. Regular employees with at least one year of service may apply by the end of October 30, 2026. A copy of your application must also be provided to our union.
The University will provide individual payment calculations and departure conditions. If you choose to participate, you will also receive six months of access to the Employee and Family Assistance Program following your departure. You must also agree to not apply for, or accept, employment with the University for 24 months.
This agreement is limited to voluntary departures. Any involuntary layoffs or other workforce changes outside its scope will require a new Section 54 notice from your employer and renewed consultation and negotiation with MoveUP.
The signed agreement is attached. Please contact your job steward or union representative with any questions before accepting an offer.
