BC Hydro & Powertech – Political Participation Clarification Final Update
October 14, 2026
To: All MoveUP members at BCH and Powertech
As a follow-up up to our previous bulletin, your employer has responded to our request for clarification about expectations during the provincial election period.
The employer has confirmed their intent was not to restrict your personal political activities, or require employees to remain politically neutral outside the workplace.
You may participate in lawful political activities on your own time, as long as you are clear you are not representing your employer’s political position or acting on their behalf. This aligns with the previously linked sections of the code of conduct on hydroweb addressing political activities on work time.
We are satisfied with this answer that confirms the employer’s institutional neutral political stance does not extend to our members’ personal lives.
If you receive direction from management concerning your personal political activities, please contact your job steward or union representative.
In solidarity,
Mike Novak, Union Representative
Alina Teymory, Union Representative
