Hertz YVR Bargaining Committee-Election: Back to Basics
October 29, 2025
To: All Members at Dollar-Thrifty and Hertz YVR
We want to start with apologies for the multiple bulletins on the bargaining committee appointment process. To be frank, we struggled with:
- affirming the interest of members who expressed a desire to serve on the bargaining committee
- balancing the needs of members in different work areas
- ensuring we recognized and respected the work of your job stewards
After getting member feedback, we recognized that we needed to go back to basics and back to our policies and procedures.
Serving on the bargaining committee requires members to be active stewards and, in the past, we have allowed members to be appointed as job stewards for bargaining with the hope and expectation that members strongly consider remaining as job stewards after bargaining has been completed.
To affirm members’ interest, the need for balance in work areas, and to recognize the ongoing work of job stewards, we have expanded the committee to six (6) members with the 6th position as an alternate in case a member cannot attend and/or at times a subject matter expert requires their attendance.
We have therefore revised the appointment and election process as follows:
Acclaimed Members:
Job Stewards
Raj Muni
Sunil Nand
Mohamed Yusuf
QTA
Nilton Borges
Election [up to two (2)]:
Drivers [one (1)]
Jim Fu
Richard Kung
Ali Mohammed
Any Department/Alternate [one (1)]
Shelly Keilbart
Shazhad Mansoory
We will do one last call for member interest as a driver or in the any department/alternate role.
The deadline is Monday, November 3, 2025, at 4:00 and should be an email to Christy Slusarenko cslusarenko@moveuptogether.ca
Once we have all the names from members who wish to stand for election for the driver and any department/alternate positions, more information on how to vote will be provided to you.
MoveUP thinks our “back to basics” approach brings a better balance to these competing interests outlined above and will result in a powerful and inclusive bargaining committee that is ready to take on the important and challenging work of collective bargaining with your employer, and in supporting your Union Representative Daniel Storms at the bargaining table.
In solidarity,
Christy Slusarenko Vice-President, Combined Units
