FortisBC – LOU#45 Remote Work – Update#6

September 18, 2025

To: All MoveUP Members at FortisBC Energy Inc and FortisBC Inc

We are approaching the one-year ratification anniversary of your collective agreement. Since that time we have had several new members, and some existing members, who have asked about the Remote Work Trial Program that was negotiated during our last round of bargaining (click here to view).

We want to provide clarification on two commonly asked questions related to the program.

Duration of the Trial Program

The trial program will last for a period of one year beginning on the date of implementation.

On completion of the trial program, MoveUP and your employer may agree to extend the trial, end the trial, or enter a newly negotiated program.

In May 2025, the members identified as eligible for the program began working from home.

In September 2025, additional members identified as eligible in the second phase began working from home.

The trial program must remain in effect until May 2026.

Who is Eligible for the Trial Program?

The job classifications that are eligible to participate in the Remote Work Trial Program is entirely at the discretion of the employer. Although MoveUP can take feedback we have heard from members to share with your employer, any decisions made on participation in the program is up to FortisBC.

Even if a job classification is designated as eligible, there may be a particular role within that job classification that is deemed ineligible to participate based on its work group, location, or for other legitimate operational reasons.

Other important things to note

  • If a third phase is contemplated, the likely implementation would be in the new year.
  • FortisBC has not brought forward any issues or concerns around the program to date.

Your Remote Work Committee encourages you to review the guidelines set out for this program. The guidelines provide a much more robust explanation. They can be found on:

  • Connector – My Employment Centre – My Union information (MoveUP) – Collective Agreement – The Trial Remote Work Program

If you have questions after reviewing the program information and the guidelines, please email the Remote Work Committee at fbcrwc@moveuptogether.ca.

In solidarity,

April Young, Union Representative
Carolyn Whittla, Remote Work Committee Member
