FortisBC + FortisBC CSC – Focus group participants needed for BCFED’s Climate Justice and Jobs Standing Committee

September 9, 2025

To: FortisBC + FortisBC CSC Job Stewards, Executive Councilors and Executive Board Members

The BC Federation of Labour’s Climate Justice and Jobs Standing Committee is undertaking a major project: developing a labour-led, worker-centered Climate Justice and Jobs Plan for BC. And they’re asking you to join them.

Our climate and economy are changing, and workers and communities are facing those impacts head-on: workplace closures, wildfire evacuations, floods, cold stress on construction sites, heat stress in schools and more. So, the BCFED is aiming to develop a climate strategy built around a strong workforce plan that protects and creates good, union jobs — one that ensures working people benefit as our economy changes, instead of shouldering the burden of disruption.

To do that, they need to hear directly from workers to ensure their voices guide the work, and would like to connect with YOU, as workers throughout the province. You will be given a $50 honorarium for sharing your time and experience.

If you are interested in participating in a focus group, please click here to indicate which session best suits your availability. Only select the dates/times in your local community. An LOA to cover the time it takes to attend the focus group may be provided upon approval, but no other expenses may be claimed (i.e. travel, food).

The dates for each session are as follows (see website for specific times):

  • Cranbrook, September 17
  • Kelowna, September 18
  • Victoria, September 20
  • Prince George, October 6
  • Prince George, October 7
  • Prince George, October 15
  • Victoria, October 31
  • Sechelt/Gibbons, November 4
  • Sechelt/Gibbons, November 5
  • Flexible dates available for other communities not listed here

Click here to sign up for a session. If a session is no longer available to select on the website, it means it is either full or the deadline to sign up has passed.

In these sessions, you will be invited to have conversations about:

  • What impacts are you facing in your work and your community from the changing climate and economy?
  • What measures do you think would ensure that a clean economy benefits workers, communities and future generations in a fair way?

If you have any questions about the focus groups themselves, please email Trish at tgarner@bcfed.ca.

In solidarity,

Rysa Kronebusch
Vice-President, Utilities
