MoveUP member Vanessa Sharma running in federal by-election in Cloverdale-Langley City

November 25, 2024

To: Members in the Cloverdale-Langley riding

MoveUP is very proud to learn that our member – Vanessa Sharma – is running as the NDP in the federal by-election in Cloverdale-Langley City.

Our union is proud to endorse Vanessa Sharma in her bid to represent the people of Cloverdale-Langley City as the next Member of Parliament.

Vanessa is a young, passionate advocate for working people and families, for women’s rights, and particularly those who belong to marginalized communities including people of colour, people with accessibility needs, and the 2SLGTBQIA+ community.

She is intelligent, articulate, and has a deep understanding of the issues that regular people face, such as cost-of-living, affordable housing, ensuring we have a clean environment for our kids to grow up in, access to healthcare, and much more.

Vanessa Sharma has a long history of activism within MoveUP and Canada’s labour movement. In addition to being an active job steward and executive councillor for our union, she also sits on numerous committees within our union. Vanessa was elected as an equity vice-president representing the Workers of Colour working group within the Canadian Labour Congress in 2022.

In 2021, Vanessa was presented with MoveUP’s Peter Corren Award for her mental health advocacy.

Vanessa has a bright, inclusive vision for the people in our communities and will be a positive voice as a Member of Parliament in Ottawa for the people of Cloverdale-Langley City.

We encourage MoveUP members who live in the Cloverdale-Langley to support Vanessa’s campaign as a volunteer, taking a sign, or making a financial contribution. You can learn more on her website at vanessasharma.ndp.ca.
