BC Civil Liberties Association – Tentative Agreement Reached and Membership Meeting
June 26, 2024
To: All MoveUP members at BCCLA
Your bargaining committee is pleased to announce that we have reached a tentative collective agreement with your employer, BC Civil Liberties Association.
Your bargaining committee is strongly recommending ratification of the tentative collective agreement.
In order to review the tentative agreement with you, a ratification meeting has been scheduled as follows:
DATE: Thursday, June 27, 2024
TIME: 5:00pm – 6:00pm
PLACE: Zoom
In attendance will be your bargaining committee as well as your Union Representative. Following the ratification meeting, electronic secret ballot voting will be open. Please make every effort to attend and cast your ballot.
As a first collective agreement, there have been some significant gains made between the parties. Your bargaining committee identified the areas of importance for the membership and this Memorandum of Agreement has enshrined some very important entitlements into the collective agreement, and added some great improvements.
Highlights of your first collective agreement are as follows:
- Three-year collective agreement
- Five paid personal days per year
- Inclusion of paid winter break closure for two weeks
- Increase to Health Spending Account to $550 from $250
- Ability to allocate up to $400 of professional development amounts to student loans
- Paid time off for medical appointments of up to three hours per month
- Clear language on overtime and overtime calculation
- Additional language to discuss an RRSP option next round of bargaining
In addition to the 6% wage increase provided by your employer in August 2023, general wage increases over the term of the agreement as follows:
- Removal of the Year of Call wage grid for legal staff
- Year of Call one to three: set salary above the YOC amounts for second YOC
- Year of Call four and above: set salary above YOC amount for sixth YOC
- Legal staff: In addition to standardization above, a general wage increase of 9% to 16% depending on classification
- Non-Legal staff: General wage increase of 10%
How and when to vote:
Voting will commence on Thursday, June 27, at 6:00pm and close Friday, June 28, 2024 at 2:00pm.
To vote, simply log in to the member portal https://memberportal.moveuptogether.ca/ and you will see the option to vote on the screen. If you are having difficulty signing into the member portal, please email membership at membership@moveuptogether.ca.
If you are not registered on the member portal prior to the voting opening, you will not be eligible to vote.
