Bargaining
PrairieCoast – Bargaining Update # 10
April 12, 2023
To: All MoveUP members at PCE
On April 6th your bargaining committee engaged in a third day of mediation with your Employer under Section 55 of the Labour Relations Code with Ms. Christina Bains from the Labour Board acting as mediator.
At the start of mediation on April 6th, the Union put across a monetary counter proposal that included reductions on our previous proposals regarding vacation, statutory holidays, boot allowance and wages. Despite our significant efforts to compromise with your Employer, the parties reached an impasse.
At this stage our mediator, Ms. Bains, must report out to the Vice Chair of the Labour Relations Board on her recommended next steps. This report could include a recommendation for further mediation, arbitration or for the parties to exercise their right to engage in job action. We have requested that Ms. Bains recommend arbitration as we don’t feel that the parties will be able to reach agreement on wages.
We will continue to keep the membership posted as this matter develops. We expect it to take at least a couple of weeks for the mediator’s report and Vice Chair’s decision on how the parties should move forward.
If you have any questions in the meantime, please see your Bargaining Committee members or contact Sara Colliss at scolliss@moveuptogether.ca or 604-837-9471 or Andrew Cheverie at acheverie@moveuptogether.ca or 604-299-0324.
