ICBC – Sunlife Extended Health Benefits
May 31, 2021
To: All MoveUP members at ICBC
When ICBC advised us in advance of the recent change of benefits providers from Manulife to Sunlife they advised there would be coverage continuity. Since the switch to Sunlife in January 2021, we have had a few requests for assistance from MoveUP members at ICBC. Thus far we have resolved each issue with the assistance of the affected member and staff at ICBC’s Human Resources department.
Generally, the issues we dealt with were administrative or related to communications rather than to actual coverage levels.
Through this process we found at least one concern we thought we should share with you.
Re: Delisted Service Providers
Occasionally a benefits provider such as Sunlife will ‘delist’ a service provider. It typically relates to fraud or it could be something more benign. Recently a member learned about this when they submitted a receipt for para-medical services from a small company that had been delisted by Sunlife. As a consequence of the service provider being previously delisted, the member’s reimbursement was initially denied.
There are steps to take to avoid this from happening to you.
- Sign in as a member and follow the steps described in Service Provider Delisting Update | Workplace Benefits And Retirement Services (sunlife.ca) and check the list of delisted service providers to avoid.
- Consider using the Lumino Provider Search on sunlife.ca or on the app.
- Consider pre-approval as is customary in the dental industry where costs for services are so high.
- Confirm with your medical service practitioner and/or their office administrator whether they are in good standing with Sunlife before receiving any services.
In solidarity,
