Boilermakers Local 191 – Tentative Agreement Reached

To: All MoveUP members at Boilermakers Local 191

Your bargaining committee met with your employer on January 23 and 24, 2019 for collective bargaining. We are pleased to announce that we have reached a tentative agreement for a new collective agreement.

Highlights of the agreement include:

  • 5-year term, from August 1, 2018 to July 31, 2023;
  • Wage increases as follows:
    • Immediate 3.75% wage increase for all employees, retroactive to August 1, 2018 (retroactivity excludes vacation bonus set out in Article 7.04 of your collective agreement);
    • Effective August 1, 2019, a 3% wage increase for all employees;
    • Effective August 1, 2020, a 3% wage increase for all employees;
    • Effective August 1, 2021, a 2% wage increase with a further increase equal to the annual Consumer Price Index (CPI) if CPI is greater than 2%, to a maximum of 3%;
    • Effective August 1, 2022, a 2% wage increase with further increase equal to the annual CPI if CPI is greater than 2%, to a maximum of 3%.
  • Equivalent annual increases to health and welfare plan premiums and pension plan contributions;
  • Lump sum signing bonus of $600 to each employee on ratification;
  • Reduction of the total number of unused sick days that may be banked to 36, with 100% payout of unused sick leave once bank is full. Sick leave accrual remains at 1.5 days per month and employees exhausting sick leave bank remain covered by the indemnity plan;
  • Improved language for leave for union business;
  • Improved bereavement leave;
  • Improved medical leave for medical procedures;
  • Improved language for leave for family responsibility and compassionate care.

Your bargaining committee is recommending acceptance of this agreement. Full details of the agreement can be viewed here. The date of the ratification meeting will follow shortly.
