UPDATED SCHEDULE: Election-readiness training opportunities for labour activists

April 3, 2024

To: Executive Board, Executive Councillors and Job Stewards

The Canadian Labour Congress will be holding a series of training to help prepare labour activists for the upcoming provincial elections.

These training sessions will cover a variety of topics and are intended to support our activist members who will be playing an active role in supporting efforts to help elect BC NDP candidates in ridings across the province, whether that is volunteering with our union’s direct member-to-member outreach efforts, volunteering with your local constituency association, or directly with the party.

The updated schedule is below. If you are interested in attending any of these sessions, please fill out this expression of interest form. You must live in the area in which you want to attend (for e.g., if you live in Burnaby but work in Richmond, you are eligible to apply to attend the session in Burnaby).

Note: Due to high interest and limited space, we will be closing registrations for all spots at NOON on Friday, April 5. Please submit your expressions of interest by that time.

If you are selected to attend, MoveUP will handle your registration as well as secure your book-off for that day(s) as required. You will be informed no less than one week before the scheduled start date if you have been selected. You will also be able to submit expenses that are related to travel to/from the event. No overnight accommodation will be provided, including for multi-day sessions.

Please only fill out the expression of interest form if you know you will be available on those dates and are willing to commit the entire day(s) to the training session.

About labour’s connection to the NDP

MoveUP is affiliated with the BC NDP and supports efforts to help elect candidates who have progressive and inclusive values and are worker friendly. Having a progressive, worker-friendly government in place means our members’ concerns about their work and other social issues, including cost-of-living, are listened to when our union’s leadership brings these to the government’s attention.

It also means having a government that will support and fund the things that have an important role in our lives, such as public services, transit, affordable childcare, clean energy, and committing to making life more affordable for everyday people.

The NDP has a long-standing relationship with the labour movement. In fact, the NDP was formed as a result of the coming together of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) and the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) in the late 1950s to early 1960s.

In solidarity,

Rysa Kronebusch and Annette Toth
Co-chairs, Political Action Committee
