Update on BCGEU job action involving public sector workers
August 16, 2022
To MoveUP Members in BC
On Monday, August 15, public sector workers who are members of the BCGEU began targeted job action in response to the impasse in contract negotiations with the provincial government.
This job action DOES NOT affect MoveUP members at their workplaces. Should job action be escalated, we are working out the list of common worksite locations with the BCGEU and will have more information on how that may impact our members who work at shared job sites.
Picket lines have gone up at the following BC Liquor Distribution Branch wholesale and distribution centres at 3:30 p.m.
- Delta Distribution Centre (DDC) – 7003 72nd Street, Delta
- Kamloops Distribution Centre (KDC) – 9881 Dallas Drive, Kamloops
- Richmond Distribution Centre (RDC) – 3389 No 6 Rd, Richmond
- Victoria Wholesale Customer Centre – 2291 Government Street, Victoria
MoveUP members are reminded to never cross a picket line, even if you are unsure if it is a legal picket line or not. You can learn more about respecting picket lines here.
Are MoveUP members directly affected?
No, at this point MoveUP members are not directly affected. The job action is only at the sites mentioned.
Will the job action escalate to other workplaces that may affect MoveUP?
If there is any escalation in the BCGEU’s job action, we will inform you at that time. At this point, however, we do not anticipate any job action that will affect our members.
How we can support the members who are on the picket line?
The BCGEU will share further information on how to support their members who are on the picket line. We will share that information with our members on our various channels when available. If you come across their picket line at one of the aforementioned locations, you can show your solidarity by joining them. Please ensure that you do not cross any picket lines while doing so.
In solidarity,
