Job Action

TransLink Members – Unifor Strike – Update #11

November 25, 2019

To: All MoveUP members at TransLink

It has been brought to our attention that there is some confusion amongst the members at TransLink about job action and expectations from MoveUP.

MoveUP is preparing for all the scenarios. We know that Unifor plans three days of picketing at CMBC starting Wednesday, November 27, 2019, unless they reach a deal. There is no indication that Unifor will be picketing any other sites than the CMBC locations. The pickets at CMBC will be around the clock in locations that operate 24/7. We are not sure when the lines will go up, but they could go up as early as 12:01am on Wednesday.

MoveUP wants to clarify that TransLink members are obliged to show up to work. If there happens to be a picket line when you show up for work, we ask that you contact the Job Action Committee for direction. Unifor is unlikely to picket any TransLink locations so we are doubtful members will need to do that. MoveUP still wants to prepare TransLink members for every possible situation and ensure that members always respect a picket line.

Unifor is planning a rally on Thursday, November 28, 2019, at the Sapperton location which is a TransLink workplace. This is a rally and not a picket.  We are asking members to schedule their lunch break so they can attend the rally, after which they should be able to return to work.

MoveUP is being proactive and requesting members at CMBC and TransLink to provide three pay stubs so that we can calculate strike pay should the need arise.  We want to be fully prepared if the job action escalates and members at TransLink are impacted. As of today, our understanding is there will be no picket lines at TransLink and the rally on Thursday, November 28, 2019 at 1:00pm will not include a picket line.

In solidarity,

Parm Sandhar, Union Representative
