TransLink – IT Outage

December 4, 2020

To: All MoveUP members at TransLink

We understand TransLink has suffered a system wide ransomware attack on its IT infrastructure. This attack is currently under active investigation by authorities. We empathize and sympathize with all our members as this event has caused the membership concern and anxiety. We sincerely appreciate the tireless work our IT members are currently performing to remedy this situation.

Your union has been in regular discussion with the employer about this incident since Wednesday, December 2, 2020.  The employer has shared correspondence with us that was sent to all employees. However, we understand this message may not have reached all our members since email may not be operational. Please find the attached memorandum from CEO Kevin Desmond here.

In addition, we received further updated information from the employer on Thursday, December 3, 2020, about the impact to this week’s pay period. The IT outage has affected the data in the payroll system. While we appreciate there may be inconvenience to the membership the employer is ensuring everyone will get paid today. The employer has communicated out to members on how this week’s pay will look different from pay from past week’s. If you did not receive this correspondence due to the email outage, please find the message attached here. If you have any specific inquires or questions about your pay you are encouraged to contact the Payroll department at pay.inquiries@translink.ca.

If by any chance you do not receive your pay today, please contact:

Melanie Presseault, Director, Total Compensation & Payroll Services, directly:

This is a very fluid situation and it is changing by the hour. We sincerely appreciate everyone’s patience on this matter as we navigate this issue together. We hope to keep the membership apprised of any developments as they are relayed to us. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to your Union Representative, Parm Sandhar.

In solidarity,

Parm Sandhar, Union Representative
Christy Slusarenko, Vice-President of Combined Units
